Trolling For Sailfish

Stuart Florida has been labeled the “Sailfish Capital of the World”.   Fishing out of Stuart from November thru May provides an ample opportunity for you and your guests to encounter a thrilling fight and hot sailfish bite.  Sailfish have been labeled the fastest fish in the ocean.  Combine that with incredible aerial acrobatics and you have a recipe making sailfish one of the most sought after sport fish in the world.  Sailfish average a length of 7ft and a weight of 35lbs.   It is not uncommon however to catch sails over 50lbs.  Early in the season a common technique implored for sailfish is trolling dead bait.  Capt. Patrick Price has made a living placing in dead bait trolling tournaments both as a mate and a Captain from New Smyrna Beach Florida to Cancun Mexico.  Patrick has fished as a mate for years with three of the best Captains the East Coast has to offer.    Captain Price was afforded the opportunity to fish as a mate for Capt. Scott Fawcett, Capt. V.J. Bell, and Capt.  Glenn Cameron.  He learned techniques he still uses today.   Techniques have to change with time though and Captain Price has created new techniques and polished old ones to be his own ensuring that if you fish with him he will “make your day.”

The best fishing for sailfish varies depending on the strength of the winter.  But most years the best fishing is from December-February.  During this time of year multiple hook-ups and double digit days are a regular occurance.  Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo, Blackfin Tuna, Bonito, Kingfish is a common by-catch with the trolling technique..
