Lots Of Meat, Great 1/2 Day

Report Date: February 17, 2020

Great morning 1/2 day of meat fishing with repeat clients @kaceysmith86 and her Dad Tom. They said they wanted meat so we focused on meat. Started the morning cobia fishing. We caught 5 and kept our state limit of 3. After catching our state limit we moved offshore to try something different. We slow trolled some live baits for a hour with no luck and I gave up and we went Snapper fishing. That wasn’t great offshore but we caught a handful of lanes, a vermilion, some sea bass, triggerfish, blue runners and Amberjacks. With limited results for the effort I moved back inshore but in federal water in hopes for another cobia or two. The Atlantic sharpnose sharks were relentless so I gave up on that and decided to try for lanes again. We caught a nice lane then Kacey hooked up to a stud cobia on a chicken rig. After 20 minutes and some intense moments boat side we were able to land the 45lb fish. I will say, the @mustadfishing ultra point 3/0 live bait hook is a beast. It’s my go to hook for chicken rig fishing and it blows my mind how these hooks hold up time and time again on jumbo surprise fish from 25lb Gag Grouper, 20lb snapper, 50lb cobia, sharks and more. Then again it’s easier to hook a big fish on a small hook then a small fish on a big hook!
